I am at the end of my tether. I have an Acer Aspire 5536 laptop that is running Ubuntu9.10 which works quite well and looks after my needs, except when it comes to the internal mic. With the mic not working it means the one application I use most "Skype" is severly hampered by no one being able to hear me.
Hardware
ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller
substyem: Acer Incorportate [ALI] Device 0206
Software settings that have been changed:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel-model=(used auto and acer)
I have loaded Audacity and Gnome Alsa Mixer to test the various options in getting the mic to work.
So far the only I can get my sound to work is if I go into (GUI)
System → Preferences → Sound → Hardware and choose the Internal Audio with the profile “analog stereo input” .
If I choose the azalia controller, neither sound nor mic work.
I have tried various combinations to get the sound and mic to work (mic never worked) and now out of ideas.
I have also checked the ubuntu help website and dont seem to find a solution.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
