Been a long while since the last entry, too busy with work unfortunately, I have tried many liveCD's on my new acer laptop
and have concluded that the sharpest with the most useful tools preloaded is Linux Mint 7.
I have Linux Mint 7 installed and in regular use, in a word it is a beautiful and practical operating system, with Java and Netbeans on top I use this for all programming work I do. I reckon this is the nearest crispness to a Mac which I dream about but cannot afford, notice the latest laptop prices on Mac are coming within striking distance.
Don't like Fedora, big clunky, revisor is good for cooking your own distros, Ubuntu 9.04 not a lot different to its predecessor.
Puppy Linux is neat and sharp...like that, small and fast, but not many tools to keep it small.
The only other winner is OpenSuse 11.1 by Novell this is a crisp system but not as capable as Mint 7, I like this one too.
Tried open Solaris to, did not think much to it as a practical tool.
Drivers are a perennial thorn in the side for Linux users, finding them is difficult, modifying them to suite aint an easy option.
We have Microsoft to thank for that preventing companies from releasing Drivers for linux users.
I see they have stifled the netbook corner quite well.
So users, John sticks his head in the firing line and says Try Linux Mint 7 for a good Linux experience.
Bye for now
