At last I have purchased a new laptop for my own programming use, an Acer Aspire 5536 from Noel Leemings after advice from the tech support guy who is a Linux supporter. First thing I did was access the BIOS and got rid of the resident Vista, I now have Linux Mint 6 loaded, this OS I really like, loaded JavaEE and my beloved Netbeans IDE 6.5 ready for programming. Open Office 3.0 for Notes, Gimp is on for Photos.
Next Semester we are teaching OS design so I am going to download Minix and have a play and a look at the source code.
OpenSuse 11.1 is nice to, don't like Mandriva, Fedora 10 was unstable on image display, in the end it is personal preference I guess and Mint is the best stable tool for me, the bread that holds the jam...my programming tools and utilities.
If any of you have views on the multitude of distros out there let me know your opinions.
Anybody else programming in Java or C or C++?
Things seem to fairly quiet on the web site so I thought I'd add a bit to the blog.
